The ICMR has selected Dr. Rajiv Bahl as its Director General

 For a three-year term, Dr. Rajiv Bahl has been named the new director general of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and secretary of the department of health. 

New Delhi : For a three-year term, Dr. Rajiv Bahl has been named the new director general of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and secretary of the department of health. At the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva, Bahl presently oversees the research on maternity, newborn child, and adolescent health in the department of maternal, neonatal child, and adolescent health and ageing.

                 The extended term of his predecessor, Dr. Balram Bhargava, as secretary of the Department of Health Research and director general of ICMR concluded in July. On April 16, 2018, Bhargava was chosen for the position and given a four-year term. Dr. Rajiv Bahl's appointment has been approved by the Cabinet's Appointments Committee.

Regarding the ICMR : One of the first organisations for medical research in the world, ICMR, New Delhi, is the supreme body in India for the formulation, coordination, and promotion of biomedical research. The leading organisation for medical research encourages and funds both internal and external research projects in the areas of infectious and non-infectious disorders as well as basic medical sciences. There are 27 ICMR institutes spread across India.
