Ladakh dPal rNgam Duston Award presented to His Holiness the Dalai Lama
Ladakh's highest civilian title "dPal rNgam Duston" was recently given to Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama. He was honored for his contributions to humanity.
DPal rNgam Duston Award :
- This is the 6th dPal rNgam Duston Award.
- The award was presented to the Dalai Lama by the Ladakh Autonomous Hills Development Council (LAHDC), Leh.
- dPal rNgam Duston was held to mark the founding of the LAHDC at Sindhu Ghat.
- His Holiness the Dalai Lama is currently visiting Ladakh since 15 July 2022. On this occasion, he emphasized on maintaining community harmony in this area.
Ladakh and Tibet are connected by the Indus River. The two have some religious and cultural similarities. The spiritual leader noted that the change in climate conditions is of great concern and asks people to be environmentally conscious in their actions.
14th Dalai Lama :
Tenzin Gyatso is the current and 14th Dalai Lama, also known as Gyalwa Rinpoche to the Tibetan people. He is the highest spiritual leader and former leader of Tibet. He is considered a living bodhisattva. He was also named 'Principal Patron of the Maha Bodhi Society of India' in 2008. In 1989, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. He was named one of the "Children of Mahatma Gandhi", in Time Magazine.
