Cyclone Asani live news update: Cyclone Asani, forming in the Bay of Bengal, is expected to approach the coast of Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday. However, it is unlikely to make landfall and can slowly turn back north-northe-east and move along the coasts of Narsapur, Yanam, Kakinada, Tuni and Visakhapatnam and emerge in the west-central bay the heart of Bengal tonight. A "strong cyclone" is forecast to weaken to a "cyclonic storm" today and then a depression Thursday morning.
According to the latest update from India's Meteorological Department, Cyclone Asani is located about 50 km southeast of Machilipatnam, 150 km southeast of Kakinada and 290 km southeast of Visakhapatnam in Andhra. Pradesh; and 530 km south-southwest of Gopalpur and 640 km southwest of Puri in Odisha. At 5:30 a.m., the storm was moving at 6 km/h. Under its influence, Andhra is likely to receive light to moderate rainfall at most places, heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places, and isolated extremely heavy falls in places along the coast. A `red alert` has been issued for districts in coastal Andhra, including Guntur and Krishna. Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Godavari districts have been placed on `yellow` alert. Isolated places in Odisha and West Bengal, meanwhile, are likely to receive heavy rainfall.
