14 Daily Lakh cases: Omicron spread warning center parallels UK 

Dr VK Paul said Europe is going through a critical period despite 80% partial vaccination and despite the fact that they have also experienced a Delta wave.


New Delhi: Omicron is spreading at a very fast rate in India and the scale of infection in the UK and France could translate into thousands of cases a day in the country, the government's Covid task force said today . India currently has 101 Omicron cases in 11 states and union territories. 
"If we look at the scale of the spread in the UK and if there is a similar outbreak in India, then with our population there will be 140,000 cases per day. France reports 65,000 cases. If an outbreak an outbreak of the same magnitude happens in India, then for our population it would mean 13k cases per day,” VK Paul said in a grim warning as cases rise.

In the UK, which  reported the highest  daily increase of 88,042 cases, 2.4% of  cases were Omicron infections. 

 Dr Paul said Europe is going through a critical period despite 80% partial vaccination and despite the fact that they have also experienced a Delta wave. 

 He advises caution about non-essential travel, crowds and New Year's festivities. 

 "Time to avoid unnecessary travel, time to avoid mass gatherings and time to observe low-intensity festivals and low-intensity New Year's Eve celebrations," he said. 

 According to  officials, experts have warned that on this trend, Omicron should overtake Delta. 

"WHO says Omicron is spreading faster than the Delta variant in South Africa, where Delta circulation is low. It is likely that Omicron will overtake the Delta variant where community transmission is occurring," the co-author said. signed by the Ministry said. Health, Luv Agarwal.
